Overview

The UNDP Climate global Climate Change Adaptation team is looking for two interns, in knowledge management and communications respectively, to join then in supporting climate action and adaptation planning around the world.

As part of UNDP’s Climate Hub, the Knowledge Management and Communications Interns will contribute to:

  • Developing creative social media content and articles for UNDP Climate channels
  • Supporting knowledge management through research, events, and knowledge product development
  • Showcasing country experiences in adaptation and resilience
  • Enhancing digital platforms, including the Adaptation website and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Database

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development, climate policy and communications while working with a dynamic global team.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Knowledge Management and Communications Interns will undertake the following tasks respectively:

Communications related tasks:

  1. Support producing creative social media content for UNDP Climate and UNDP Corporate channels
  2. Support updating project pages on the Adaptation website (including NAPs and SCALA programme)
  3. Support reviewing website visual content (resizing photo banners, updating photos, etc.)
  4. Produce 3-5 articles or short stories for the Adaptation website (based on existing success stories and case studies)
  5. Support of content for the G7 Adaptation Accelerator Hub (press release, social media content, etc.)
  6. Support the team’s communication and advocacy efforts by captioning and uploading photos to the UNDP Climate Photo library, and occasional support with writing tasks.

Knowledge management related tasks:

  1. Support to conducting research on thematic areas relevant for adaptation planning processes. This includes the Adaptation Accelerator Hub (AAH) programme and the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA);
  2. Support to development of knowledge products such as policy papers and briefings notes, internal and external
  3. Support to knowledge exchanges and organization of online and in-person events;
  4. Support for updating the internal NAP Database based on country project progress reports;
  5. Provide support with translations (if needed and depending on the language skills of the selected intern).

Required Skills and Experience

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
  • Knowledge of additional UN official languages will be considered a plus.

Experience:

  • Previous related work experience in research and communication would be an asset but is not required.
  • Experience with organization of events, social media and coordination would be an asset.

Eligibility

  • Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Financial Issues:

Internships within the UN system are subject to conditions the applicant must get familiar with before signing his/her internship agreement. Starting from January 2020 interns receive stipends according to UN rules and regulations. The monthly stipend amount is USD 279,16 for Turkiye offices. Any further costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her arrangements for travel, accommodation and other costs.
